Larry at Chadbourne reported a big reduction in salt use. There is an effort beginning between campus and MMSD [Madison Metropolitan Sewerage Department] to reduce the sodium in the wastewater stream, as they can’t remove sodium from the wastewater that discharges into Badfish Creek. The EPA is getting after them about it, and desalination costs big bucks, so they are trying to work it out on the other end. Every little bit helps, and Neil’s program is not very expensive. I’m guessing you would recoup the investment in a reasonable period of time in salt savings.
